Basics of Bike Shifting

One of the most common mistakes people make when riding a bike is running their gears incorrectly.  This causes damage to your drivetrain.

Here is a simple graphic which shows the basics which help you maximise the lifespan of your parts.  Note: The biggest mistake you can make is running ‘big ring’ to ‘big ring’ (the biggest cog at the front and the biggest ring at the back).  This will stretch your chain and possible push your rear mech into the spokes of the wheel.
